Example 1

A mixture of the SM (1.0 g, 3.5 mmol), SOCl2 (5 mL), and DMF (5 drops) was stirred at reflux for 4 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the resulting residue was azeotroped with toluene to provide the product as a yellow solid. [652 mg, 62%]
