Alcohol to Aldehyde

(MnO2)

Examples:

Example 1

To a solution of the SM (10 g, 63.3 mmol) in DCM (150 mL) was added activated MnO2 (38 g, 443 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at RT overnight. The solids were removed via filtration and the filtrate was concentrated. The resulting material was purified by silica gel chromatography to provide the product. [7.2 g, 73%]

Example 2

A solution of the SM (2.50 g, 12.4 mmol) in DCM (15 mL) was treated with activated MnO2 (96%, 11.1 g, 123 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 24 h. The mixture was filtered through celite and the filter pad was washed with DCM. The combined filtrates were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The resulting material was purified by silica gel chromatography (30-80% EtOAc/heptane) to provide the product. [1.8 g, 73%]
